If you are slightly overwhelmed by the tourist trails and feel like seeing artistic masterpieces in a calmer, more private setting, this is the place for you. This stately museum located in the well to do neighbourhood of Salamanca, houses artistic works collected by the man himself, Jose Lazaro Galdiano. This mid 20th century Spanish editor owned a publication called Modern Spain and when he died, he donated all 20,000 volumes in his possession and threw in his 13,000 piece art collection and his own residence, which was turned into this museum. The collection includes paintings by British artists such as Constable and Reynolds, 16th century Northern European Bosch and some artistic gems by Spanish favourites such as El Greco, Goya and Murillo.

Other great attractions located nearby include Retiro, Chueca and Sorolla Museum . Check out great hotels like Dormirdcine, Melia Galgos and NH Principe de Vergara
